Update from Powertune
Making around 450 awkW, this thing is a crazy little firecracker.
It's built around an SR20VE combination that we originally put together way back at our old Wetherill Park workshop. We're proud to see that all these years later, it's still going hard.
One of the more interesting features of Ian's little hatch is the CP9A driveline conversion, incorporating an Evo VI 5-speed gearbox, custom twin plate clutch, RS rear diff and driveshafts.
For those unfortunate enough to know firsthand, the GTi-R's factory driveline is the glass jaw of these otherwise amazing little machines. The Evo conversion was the silver bullet solution at the time, addressing one of the platform's biggest weaknesses.
More recently, we've moved the car from its previous BorgWarner turbo to a Turbosmart 5862. The internally gated BorgWarner had reached the limits of what we could achieve with boost control, prompting the change to a setup offering greater flexibility.
Tying the package together is a MoTeC catalogue engine management system, giving us the control and monitoring needed to make the most of the combination.
Small car, big attitude, and still every bit as wild as it should be.
